Originally home to the Montaukett tribe, the area was settled by Europeans in the 1600s and for centuries has been beloved for its grazing land, lush forests, and access to excellent fishing and whaling. Its laid-back vibe, open landscape and spectacular natural beauty is what has drawn creatives to this part of the world over the past few decade.

Take A Hike

Montauk boasts over 5,000 acres of parks and beaches perfect for scenic walks or challenging hikes. Stop by the front desk for maps and recommendations, including trails at Hither Hills State Park, Montauk Point State Park, and the historic Montauk Lighthouse.

Hit The Water

Montauk is home to some of the best surfing on the East Coast, with prime breaks like the Terrace surf break right in front of Marram. For lessons, the Engstrom family of professional surfers offers instruction for all skill levels, with spots like Ditch Plains, Camp Hero, and Turtle Cove nearby.

Beach Bum

Many of the best beaches in Montauk are monitored by lifeguards, including Ditch Plains, the famous surf spot; the family-friendly Gin Beach; the easy-to-access Kirk Park Beach; hot-spot South Edison Beach; and Hither Hills, which has an adjacent playground.
